The Foe
The Foe
A bird attacked my windowpane,
Inside a bird the same,
And each attacked the other one
Again, and then again,
And neither thought his cause was wrong
And each thought his was right
And neither of them stopped for song
But fought the bitter fight
And they fought on and on and on
Until they fell and died
And some told which them had won
But the willows cried.
